Rachel Breunlin and Bruce Sunpie Barnes host a conversation about the history of the communities created by people who escaped slavery in Louisiana from the 1700s until emancipation. Bryan Wagner (author of a new book on the maroon Bras Coupé), Kalamu Ya Salaam (poet, educator, and series editor at UNO Press), and Brenda Marie Osbey (author of All Saints and former poet laureate of Louisiana) discuss scholarship and creative works related to the topic and consider how these acts of freedom continue to inspire us today.
