Join us for a virtual evening with Dr. Ryan Gray of UNO as he discusses archaeology in New Orleans. Dr. Gray will be referencing his most recent book: Uprooted: Race, Public Housing, and the Archaeology of Four Lost New Orleans Neighborhoods (University of Alabama Press). This virtual program is sponsored by the Friends of the Cabildo as part of the Second Thursday Lecture Series. It is free and open to the public, but registration is required. About the Author
Dr. Ryan Gray is the Richard Wallin Boebel Professor of Anthropology and Associate Director of the Midlo Center for New Orleans Studies at the University of New Orleans. He has directed numerous archaeological excavations in New Orleans and abroad, including locations associated with Storyville in New Orleans. Gray is also a long-term partner with the U.S. Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency, investigating WWII air crash sites to identify the remains of missing US service members. Gray's book Uprooted: Race, Public Housing, and the Archaeology of Four Lost New Orleans Neighborhoods, was released in 2020 (University of Alabama Press), and he is currently at work on a new book (with Shannon Dawdy) that will be the first overview of the archaeology of New Orleans for general audiences.
