Between 1854 and 1929, the Children's Aid Society and the New York Foundling Hospital collaborated to rescue more than 250,000 homeless or abandoned children from the streets of New York City. Their groundbreaking plan aimed to relocate these children to rural homes across America and laid the foundation for the modern foster care system.

The orphan train movement left an indelible mark on Louisiana, which welcomed over 2,000 children searching for new and better lives. Despite the challenges of leaving their familiar lives behind, these brave children rode the orphan trains with hopes for brighter futures.
