"The Green Book" Play featuring playwright Calvin Ramsey

Join us from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and enjoy a dramatic reading of Calvin Ramsey's Play "The Green Book" by actors of Upstage Theater Company with a keynote address and discussion by the playwright. "The Green Book" play is based on the Negro Motorist Green Book, a travel guide first created in 1936 by Harlem postman Victor Green. The annual travel guide, published until 1967, provided African American travelers with information on restaurants, gas stations, department stores, and other businesses that welcomed Black travelers during the era of Jim Crow laws and "sundown towns" – communities that explicitly prohibited African Americans from staying overnight. The Green Book offered critical, life-saving information, and sanctuary.
November 14th is the last day to view The Negro Motorist Green Book exhibition at the Capitol Park Museum. Capitol Park Museum is the only museum in Louisiana where you can view this exhibition.
