Bring your lunch for Lunchtime Lagniappe at Capitol Park Museum! Lunchtime Lagniappe is an ongoing series of brown-bag talks that start at noon and last approximately an hour. Join LSU Professor Emeritus Petra Hendry as she presents Race and Education: Remembering the Forgotten History of the Afro-Franco-Creole Protest Tradition. We will discuss Louisiana’s 1868 constitution, which forbade segregation in public schools. Hendry will explore the state’s educational history, Afro-Franco-Creole activism, and the influence of the Haitian Revolution and The Tribune, the first African American daily newspaper, in the fight for integrated education.
