The Cabildo

Join us at the Cabildo for a rare lecture by acclaimed New Orleans artist James Michalopoulos, whose work is currently featured in Michalopoulos: Mystical Expressionism. A reception and book-signing will follow the talk.

On view at the Cabildo through September 27, 2026, Michalopoulos: Mystical Expressionism explores the artist’s prolific forty-year career and features more than sixty works celebrating the vernacular architecture of New Orleans. Through bold color, energetic brushwork, and distinctive perspectives, Michalopoulos captures the character and spirit of the city’s historic neighborhoods, including the French Quarter, Tremé, Marigny, and Bywater.

This special program offers visitors an opportunity to hear directly from the artist about his work, his vision, and the city that continues to inspire him
