Notes
Standard symbols of the Americas adorn the rococo-style device framing this map's title cartouche. A quiver filled with arrows hangs from the shoulder of a seated female figure representing America. The male figure on the right, also symbolizing America, holds in his hands a mountain lion. Another animal commonly associated with America was the parrot, depicted just above the male figure's left shoulder. A "singerie" monkey is depicted sitting above right. Native to South America, this type of monkey often adorned New World maps.
