Fair. Heavy general foxing, surface dirt, worn along center fold. Needs conservation.
Curatorial Notes

Colored. Does tnot appear to have a crack in the plate, lower l corner, thus is probably first state printing. The plate became cracked somertime between 1575 and 1579 and subsequent printings ahow this crack and are second state of Plate 1. From Kahn catalog: This map confronts contemporary speculations about Australia. Was it part of New Guinea? A caption off the coast says that no one is sure. Were were the lands to the south sighted by Ferdinand Magellan's expedition in 1520 part of Terra Australis? The "Theatrum" was the first modern atlas and was based on contemprary charts and maps.
