Gallatin Street Fridays: Gerald French Trio

2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
New Orleans
New Orleans Jazz Museum at the Old U.S. Mint

The New Orleans Jazz Museum presents Gallatin Street Fridays, a weekly celebration of the artists who make New Orleans a global destination for music. This week we have the Gerald French Trio!

Gerald French is a jazz artist, vocalist, and WWOZ DJ. In New Orleans, the birthplace of Jazz and the city of family music traditions, Gerald French hails from one of the pioneering families of Traditional Jazz. French is known as "The Giant," not just for his imposing presence on the band stand, but also for his original style of drumming that has him traveling the world and playing all types of music.

If the name Paulin sounds familiar, there’s a reason for that – Roderick is the son of legendary New Orleans bandleader Ernest “Doc” Paulin who led brass bands on the streets of New Orleans for over 70 years. Doc insisted that musicians in his bands adhere to certain professional standards on and off stage. Many young players began their music career by performing with Doc Paulin and have gone on to achieve musical prominence such as clarinetist Dr. Michael White, Alto saxophonist Donald Harrison, Jr. and trumpeter Gregg Stafford among scores of local New Orleans musicians.

This program takes place in our third-floor Performance Center listening room. Admission is free, and seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Can’t make it in person? Enjoy jazz from home through the Jazz Museum’s Live-Stream Concert Series, featuring performances broadcast daily at 2 p.m. Watch for free at facebook.com/nolajazzmuseum/live.
