Discover the history behind an everyday skill at Capitol Park Museum’s Discovery Day: Stitching History. Inspired by textiles displayed in the museum’s galleries, this beginner-friendly program will introduce participants to basic sewing techniques, including how to make a simple stitch and sew on a button.

Visitors will also learn about the importance of sewing needles 250 years ago and the influence of Spanish trade on the needle market in colonial Louisiana. The program connects these historical objects and traditions with a practical skill participants can continue using today.

Enjoy discounted museum admission and participate in the free educational sewing activity. No previous sewing experience is required.
