Joseph Yeager
American, c. 1792–1859
Philadelphia artist Joseph Yeager made the first significant engraving depicting the Battle of New Orleans—two years after the event. Yeager worked from a composition by William Edward West (1788–1857), another artist in Philadelphia. By 1821, Yeager's skills had improved considerably—he used engraving, mezzotint, and aquatint to make sophisticated, large-scale prints after compositions by pioneering Philadelphia genre painter John Lewis Krimmel (1786–1821).
