Louis Xavier Magny

French, c. 1800–1855

Magny was born in Avignon, France. He studied and worked as a lithographer in France before coming to New Orleans in about 1847. Magny produced a range of subjects, including portraits, city views, and sheet music covers. He is today best known for lithographs of St. Louis Cathedral. Magny's shop was in Exchange Alley or Exchange Place for the eight years that he was in New Orleans. He is listed in city directories as a lithographer until his death on July 15, 1855.

Magny created a set of lithographs about 1848 to show the proposed addition to St. Louis Cathedral, completed in 1851.
