Eugène-François-Marie-Joseph Devéria
French, 1805–1865
Devéria trained with neoclassical artist Anne-Louis Girodet de Roussy-Trioson (1767–1824) at the École des beaux-arts at the same time that Jean Joseph Vaudechamp (1790–1866) was a student. He debuted at the Salon in 1827. Although many Louisianans had their portraits painted by Devéria, there is no evidence that he visited the U.S. Louisianans such as Antoine Julien Meffre-Rouzan had their portraits painted by in Paris and shipped to New Orleans.
