Mr. Feuille
French [?], fl. 1835–1841
An advertisement taken out in the Bee/Abbeville first identifies a portrait painter named Feuille in March of 1835. Mr. Feuille evidently had some training, but his portraits lack the academic polish and sophistication of French neoclassical painters such as Jean Joseph Vaudechamp. Feuille is more of a limner—a painter of likenesses— working in the plain painting tradition. His presumed brother, Jean François Feuille, is listed as an engraver working on Chartres Street during the same period.
